Anytime something amazing happens I will try to post it here. For me, that includes when books are coming out, there is major progress in getting things written or published, new additions or formats become available, or possibly even when I teach my adorable, crazy dog, Shaggy, a new trick (if it is a slow news month). Keep coming back to stay informed of all the latest news!

PBS American Portrait - A National Storytelling Project
I submitted a video and text for entry in the PBS American Portrait - A National Storytelling Project and it was accepted. I was surprised because the clearly state that you cannot advertise anything in the entries. I was sure they would make me reshoot the video because I talk about writing as Stephen Burckhardt and my books are clearly displayed behind me in the video. However, I to not promote the books, I just talk about what it is like to try to rebuild a writing career after having had so much brain trauma having survived six brain surgeries in six months. It is such an honor to be a part of this project. If you have a unique story to tell, you should check it out. You can see my entry by clicking here.

My first book, Into the West: The Orphan Train, was nominated for the 2020 TopShelf Indie Book Awards. From the letter I received, the judges from the 2019 awards felt m book was good enough to earn a second chance to be awarded first place so they nominated it for the 2020 awards.
Two Best Sellers Lists
My book, Into the West: The Orphan Train, made it to #46 on the free book Best Sellers list in literature on Amazon and to number #16 in westerns. Contributing Author In Western Anthologies
Most of this year was spent dealing with personal health issues and writing micro-short stories under my pen name, Stephen Burckhardt, for four western anthologies. The collections were published under Scott Harris & 51 Friends. I "Stephen Burckhardt" was one of the friends.
There were four books published in this collection. Scott gave us all the same writing prompt and all 52 authors would write our own take on the prompt. I earn no money from these books and participated in hopes of gaining more exposure for my Stephen Burckhardt books. I have not seen any indication that this exercise has been helpful to my writing career but at east it was fun.

Our rescue puppy, Shaggy, arrived today in Dusseldorf, Germany from Moscow, Russia. He is a Border Collie/Chinese Crested mix. He is so adorable. He's black and white with brown and red highlights. He looks like a shaggy Border Collie, hence the name. It took us eight months to finally get a rescue dog over here. The process was amazing. This little guy was well worth the wait!
